China Food Scare: Tainted Milk & More

While US mulls over its financial crisis, China is struggling to salvage their reputation as the their recent food scandal shocks the international community.

As you may have know by now, powdered milk were found laced with melamine, a type of industrial compound which is particularly harmful to infants and small children. Till now, four infants have died among some 53,000 ill.

This is not the first time that products from China were found to be unsafe. However, this time, the situation is particularly serious due to widespread contamination and health threat. This is because milk powder is a primary ingredient for many products. As such, many by-products made partly from milk-related ingredients sourced from China have been contaminated in the process. In addition, powdered milk has grown to become a necessity for non-breastfeeding mothers.

AIG, Merrill Lynch and Lehman Brothers

Within the past week, the world witnessed shocking drama on Wall Street.

Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy, aged 150.

Merrill Lynch sold itself to Bank of America at the age of 94.

As both events occurred on Monday, AIG seemed near to collapse under financial pressure.

No one must have envisaged one day that these banking giants would fail and one of the world’s largest insurance corporation on the verge of bankruptcy. Not until the collapse of Bear Stearns. Banks worldwide have suffered more than $500 billion of write-downs and loan losses since the global credit crisis began more than a year ago.

Sense of Home

The newest show on Mediacorp Channel 5 aims to provide insights into the thoughts of Singaporeans living overseas and the reasons why they choose to do so.
Filmed entirely outside Singapore, the new anthology will be screened on Channel 5 starting this Sunday. Locations for filming include Budapest, London, Christchurch etc. A peek into the lives and feelings of Singaporeans living in these countries will be captured in this new anthology.

Hold on…Is there an Agenda? Is this Propoganda? How unbiased will the show be?
Afterall, mediacorp which is a Singapore based company will be under pressure from the relavent government authorities not to publish/film a program which encourages people to migrate overseas. It is called the ‘Brain Drain’. The main agenda of the show would be to pull on Singaporeans’ heartstrings, More »

Bangkok Dangerous - The real stuff, not the movie

We saw over the past recent weeks the dramatic turn of events which unfolded in Thailand.

Anti-government protesters descended in front of the government house and blockaded several major airports, leaving foreigners stranded in the country as airports shut down their operations.

At one point, clashes broke out between them and pro-government activists. The violent clash between the opposing parties resulted in one death and prompted the Thailand Prime Minister, Samak Sundaravej to impose a state of emergency.
