Filmed entirely in New Zealand, the fourth and final episode of Sense of Home focuses on the trial and tribulations that Edmund Chen, Andrea De Cruz and their daughter face. After impressing during his overseas job stint, Edmund gets offered an extension to his job and readily accepts. This without first telling his wife, Andrea De Cruz, and his daughter. he eventually breaks the news to them but to his dismay, they disapprove.

During a road trip, Edmund and co. endure a couple more shouting matches, as well a near death experience. To their dismay, their car dies. Luckily for them, a good New Zealand samaritan (married to a Singaporean but unknownst to them at that time) turns up and offers a helping hand. They eventually make it out unschathed but still divided in their opinions of the future.

Eventually Andrea and daugther decide to return to Singapore with Edmund returning after 6 months.

Sense of Home

OK well I’ve been tied up. Here goes my part 1, 2, 3 review of Sense of Home.

Quite disappointingly, Sense of Home is just a 4 part series. Only 4 parts? Does the government really think that a 4 part serial will entice overseas Singaporeans to return to Singapore…haha. Wishful thinking man.

A quick refresher for those of you out there who missed the episodes.

Part 1: Fiona Xie & Alaric Tay star as expats living in Shanghai. Fiona is a Shanghai based marketing manager while Alaric is an english teacher. After a passionate night, Fiona finds herself pregnant and faced with the dilemma of whether she should have her Baby in Shanghai or return to Singapore. As the episode goes on, Fiona’s mum flies from Singapore to Shanghai just to check on her. The typical ‘I love you but I hate my mother-in-law’ scenes play out between Alaric and Fiona’s mum. Eventually, mother and son-in-law kiss and make up. Everyone is happy and they return to Singapore to have the baby. Fairytale ending.

Afterall, mediacorp which is a Singapore based company will be under pressure from the relavent government authorities not to publish/film a program which encourages people to migrate overseas. It is called the ‘Brain Drain’. The main agenda of the show would be to pull on Singaporeans’ heartstrings, More »
